Norgren showcases a novel disposable device
16/05/2012
A novel single use device that is set
to help make laparoscopic procedures quicker, safer and easier will be
showcased on Norgren’s stand at MEDTEC UK.
During these procedures surgeons often
experience visual impairment when the laparoscope’s lens window becomes
obscured by condensation, blood and other body fluids. As a result the
laparoscope has to be removed from the body for the lens to be cleaned before
the procedure can continue. The new device, called OpClear will help avoid the
need to remove the laparoscope by releasing a controlled amount of carbon
dioxide to remove deposits on the lens.
OpClear is developed and supplied by
Cipher Surgical. The Coventry-based company tasked Norgren with designing a
complete gas control system comprising PCB, software and manifold for a control
unit which, on operation of a foot switch by the surgeon, will deliver a
controlled volume of pressurised carbon dioxide across the lens window,
cleaning its surface. Norgren is manufacturing the manifolds for the systems at
its Lichfield facility.
MEDTEC UK is being held on 23–24 May 2012 in Hall 9 of the NEC, Birmingham, UK. Norgren will be exhibiting on Stand 1702.
